Queensland’s journey towards ZNE 2050

The 2018 National Sustainability in Business Conference will be held over Thursday 8 and Friday 9 March at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Brisbane. 

Tony Roberts, Deputy Director-General, Environmental Policy and Planning at the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection joins us at the Conference as a Keynote Speaker to discuss ‘Queensland’s journey towards ZNE 2050’.

The Queensland Government is committed to playing its part in the global effort to address the impacts of climate change and has set an ambitious target of transitioning the State to a zero net emission economy by 2050.

The Government will achieve this outcome by preparing and supporting local government, industry, businesses, and communities to manage the risks of climate change and harness the opportunities of a clean growth economy.

Tony will explain how the Queensland Government is reframing the climate change conversation as an economic one, and how its

Queensland Climate Adaptation Strategy and industry-led Sector Adaptation Plans are prioritising adaptation activities, identifying emerging opportunities, sharing knowledge and encouraging collaboration on complex issues.

He will also talk about sustainability related initiatives being progressed by the Queensland Government.

Tony is responsible for developing strategy, policy and legislation to support the Government’s environment and heritage agenda. Tony leads the department’s strategy on environmental legislation and policy priorities in relation to: climate, water quality, waste, coastal management, planning and development, heritage, air and chemicals, state of the environment reporting, environment protection and reef policy. Tony supports the Minister and Director-General in representing Queensland’s environment and heritage interests at the national level.
