Mr Jack Noonan from Sustainability Victoria to join us at #NSBC18

The 2018 National Sustainability in Business Conference will be held on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 March at Hotel Grand Chancellor, Brisbane.

Mr Jack Noonan, Manager, Climate Change at Sustainability Victoria will join us at the conference to discuss ‘Top Down and Bottom Up: The Role of Policy and Perceptions in Mobilising the Victorian Economy to Net Zero Emissions’.

Sustainability Victoria is the Victoria Government’s delivery agency for environmental sustainability. Sustainability Victoria aims to inspire all Victorians sustainable actions every day. Sustainability Victoria is responsible for the delivery of the voluntary TAKE2 program, focusing on businesses, community groups, education providers, local governments, and individual and householders.

In February 2017, the Victorian Government became the first state in Australia to legislate a net zero by 2050 emissions target. The new Climate Change Act (2017) also requires consideration of climate change in government decision making. This, combined with an ambitious legislated Victorian Renewable Energy Target (VRET), interim emissions reductions targets aligned to the Paris Agreement, and the world leading TAKE2 Climate Change Program, has placed Victoria in a strong position to lead on climate change action.

While policy changes take place, sentiment of the Victoria community is also important in driving action on climate change. Over the last twelve months, Sustainability Victoria has undertaken extensive social research regarding what Victorians think about climate change, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and advanced sustainable actions. These findings provide business and industry with unique consumer insights. Similarly, the findings provide policy makers with further license for ambitious and transformative climate change policy and programs.

This presentation will provide an outline of Victorians perceptions of climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency, how they want to get involved, what it means for business and industry, and how the Victorian Government’s climate change agenda is aligned.
