The Pathway to Sustainability for AMP Capital’s Real Estate Business

The 2018 National Sustainability in Business Conference is almost upon us, this year being held over Thursday 8 and Friday 9 March at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Brisbane. 

Chris Nunn is Head of Sustainability at AMP Capital Real Estate and joins us at the conference as a Keynote Speaker to discuss ‘The Pathway to Sustainability for AMP Capital’s Real Estate Business’.

AMP Capital is an investment management firm with approximately A$ 178 Billion in Assets Under Management (AUM as at 1H17). The AMP Capital Real Estate division has approximately $23 Bn of AUM, consisting of over 80 properties, including shopping centres, offices and industrial buildings. AMP Capital is committed to achieving long term sustainable outcomes at our real estate assets, throughout our supply chain and in the communities in which we operate.

Our sustainability strategy addresses environmental, social and governance issues in order to: enhance value and minimise risk for our investors; deliver exceptional real estate experiences for our customers; perform in line with global best practice; and build a culture which embraces sustainability as a core value. As part of our sustainability strategy we are working toward the ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality for our AMP Capital Wholesale Office Fund by 2030. This presentation will discuss the proposed pathway to zero carbon for this real estate portfolio, and other key sustainability targets and initiatives we are pursuing on our journey to becoming a sustainable real estate company.

Chris Nunn is Head of Sustainability at AMP Capital Real Estate. AMP Capital has a property portfolio valued at approximately $23 billion, mainly in Australia and NZ, consisting of approximately 80 shopping centres, offices and industrial assets. Chris has 17 years’ experience in sustainability with expertise in environmental law, sustainability consultancy, green building design and operations, sustainability rating systems, corporate sustainability strategy and reporting.

Chris started out as an Environmental Lawyer, working for 5 years as an environment and planning lawyer at major Australian law firm Minter Ellison and then as a litigation solicitor at the Environmental Defender’s Office in Sydney. Chris was awarded a Chevening Scholarship to study a Masters degree at the London School of Economics, after which Chris spent a further 5 years working in London as Associate Director of Sustainability for design and engineering consultancy Atkins. In 2011, Chris moved back to Sydney to work as Sustainability Leader at engineering consultancy Norman Disney & Young, then worked as Sustainability Director for global property management company JLL, joining AMP Capital in September 2015.
